Disney producer confirms no plans for ‘Encanto’ sequel

Walt Disney Animation Studios Creative Executive Yvett Merino has stated that there are currently no discussions regarding a sequel to the 2021 film ‘Encanto’. While Merino expressed personal enthusiasm for returning to the film's world, noting its significance as her first produced film and its representation of a Latino family, she confirmed that no follow-up is being greenlit at this time.

Despite the lack of a theatrical sequel, the ‘Encanto’ franchise will expand through Disney's theme parks. The Madrigal family will feature in Pueblo Esperanza, a new Tropical Americas land currently under construction at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. This expansion includes a new attraction and a recreation of the family home.
