Disney releases live-action remake of Moana

Disney has released a live-action remake of its 2016 animated film, Moana (Oceania), directed by Thomas Kail. The film follows Moana, played by Catherine Laga’aia, as she journeys across the ocean to find the demigod Maui, played by Dwayne Johnson, to save her island of Motunui.

Critics note that the production is visually spectacular, capturing the scenery of the Pacific islands and maintaining the musical elements essential to the original. While Laga’aia has been praised for her convincing performance, some reviews suggest the film remains very faithful to the 2016 source material, which may limit its ability to offer new surprises compared to the animated version.
