Disney releases new song 'Along the Way' for live-action Moana

Walt Disney Studios unveiled a new original song titled “Along the Way” for its upcoming live‑action adaptation of Moana, slated to open in theaters on July 10. The track was written by Lin‑Manuel Miranda and features a musical dialogue between Catherine Laga’aia, who portrays the live‑action Moana, and Auli‘i Cravalho, the voice of the animated Moana, before joining with Dwayne Johnson as the demigod Maui. Both Disney and the film’s producers highlighted the song as a core element of the movie’s soundtrack and cultural celebration.

The release was accompanied by a Disney featurette showing behind‑the‑scenes insights, with Johnson noting that expanding the music was a priority from the start. Miranda explained that the idea emerged after Cravalho’s involvement sparked the concept of a duet between the two Moanas, which then expanded into a trio with Johnson’s Maui. The song will appear on the film’s soundtrack, which will be released in multiple formats, including Dolby Atmos and vinyl editions.
