Disney+ removes 4K Ultra HD and HDR in Germany

Disney+ has discontinued both 4K Ultra HD and HDR video formats for its German streaming service as of the recent weekend. All tiers now offer a maximum resolution of 1080p in standard dynamic range (SDR), with the premium label for these high‑quality features completely removed from the app.

The company has not provided a timeline for restoring the lost capabilities and cited no technical issue with devices or app versions. The change follows an earlier loss of Dolby Vision in Germany due to a patent dispute, leaving Dolby Atmos and IMAX Enhanced as the only remaining technical perks for premium subscribers. Customers are advised to contact Disney+ support for possible compensation.
