Disney restores EPCOT Mexico Pavilion pyramid to original colors

Disney is currently performing an extensive exterior refurbishment of the Mesoamerican pyramid at EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion. The project aims to restore the structure to its original 1982 opening-day appearance, which has become muted and monochromatic due to decades of exposure to Florida’s sun and humidity.

Workers are applying bold reddish-brown paint to horizontal relief bands and structural borders, while using brilliant turquoise highlights to accentuate serpent heads, animal carvings, and geometric motifs. This restoration is intended to bring back the visual depth and saturated colors originally designed by Imagineers to serve as a centerpiece for the World Showcase lagoon.

While the exterior is being revitalized, reports indicate that changes are also occurring within the Plaza de los Amigos, where traditional cultural offerings are being reorganized.
