Disney reveals Deadpool & Wolverine production costs exceeded budget
Disney has disclosed that the production costs for the Marvel Studios film ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ exceeded its original budget. According to financial filings from Richmond Street Productions UK, the total cost reached $556.8 million.
After accounting for $110.7 million in UK tax credits and reimbursements, the net spending for the film stands at $446.1 million. The report, which covers the period ending October 31, 2025, includes a formal admission from financial officer Tracy Bermingham stating that “final costs exceeded the production budget.”
While the budget was significantly higher than the initially reported $200 million, the film has been a major commercial success, grossing approximately $1.34 billion worldwide. It is the only Marvel Studios film to surpass the $1 billion mark since the pandemic.
Factors contributing to the cost overrun may include the 2023 Hollywood actors’ and writers’ strikes, which paused production midway through filming. During the hiatus, director Shawn Levy and his team reportedly worked on additional scenes involving various Wolverine variants, requiring extra costumes and sets.
