Disney sees box office resurgence led by Toy Story 5 success

Disney is experiencing a resurgence at the theatrical box office, led by Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 5’, which has surpassed $1.08 billion globally to become the most successful film in the franchise. Additionally, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ has approached $700 million worldwide, contributing to a strong performance for the company’s theatrical portfolio.

This success stands in contrast to previous corporate challenges, such as the collapse of Blue Sky Studios. Following Disney’s $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, the studio became part of 20th Century Fox Animation, but ultimately faced shutdown due to corporate decisions regarding production priorities and franchise management.

On streaming platforms, Disney+ and Hulu are releasing new content centered on established franchises. Upcoming highlights include the musical ‘Camp Rock 3’, a restored director’s cut of ‘The X-Files: I Want to Believe’, and the 18th season of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’.
