Disney shifts streaming strategy by licensing content to Netflix
Disney is shifting its streaming strategy by licensing various productions to Netflix, marking a reversal from its previous focus on exclusive content for Disney+.
Under a new agreement, selected titles including the 'Ice Age' film series, 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians', and 'Will Trent' will be made available on Netflix for limited periods. For example, the first two seasons of 'Percy Jackson' and the five 'Ice Age' films have been licensed for three months.
Media specialists suggest this move indicates that even major entertainment conglomerates are finding it difficult to bypass the massive reach of Netflix. This trend may signal a broader shift in the international streaming market where exclusivity becomes less central than maximizing revenue through wide distribution across multiple platforms.
