Disney to add playground structure to Hollywood Studios Monstropolis land

A newly filed Walt Disney Imagineering permit indicates that a playground structure is being constructed in the upcoming Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The project involves general construction at 361 Cypress Drive, the site of the former Stage 1 Company Store, located near the former Muppet*Vision 3D theater.

The permit lists Landscape Structures, Inc., a commercial playground manufacturer, as the primary contractor. This development suggests a shift in Disney’s new-land strategy; while previous expansions like Pandora and Galaxy’s Edge focused on headliner attractions and retail, the upcoming Monstropolis and Tropical Americas lands at Animal Kingdom both appear to include dedicated play areas.

In anticipation of the land's opening, new Monsters, Inc. themed merchandise has also arrived at the Beverly Sunset Boutique, including a Sulley-inspired Loungefly bag and a Mike and Celia mug set.
