Magic Kingdom's Frontierland faces ride and shop closures
Several operational issues have impacted the Frontierland area of Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction has experienced a temporary closure as of late August 2026, following a period of refurbishment that concluded in May 2026.
Additionally, the Frontier Trading Post merchandise location was forced into an indefinite closure after flooding occurred on August 23, resulting in several inches of water within the store. However, the location reportedly reopened on August 26 after appearing to sustain no significant water damage.
These disruptions occur as Frontierland undergoes major transformations, including the development of the Cars-inspired Piston Peak National Park, which is set to replace the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.
