Disney to integrate Hulu and live TV into Disney+ ecosystem

Disney CFO Hugh Johnston has outlined a strategic shift to transform Disney+ into a comprehensive ecosystem designed to increase user engagement and reduce subscriber churn. A central component of this plan involves integrating Hulu content and profiles into a ‘one-fan, one-account’ model.

Key technical and content updates include the introduction of live television within the Disney+ app. This will feature an interactive TV guide and access to local broadcast affiliates such as ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC, alongside news and entertainment channels like CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News for bundle subscribers. The platform is also rolling out 24/7 linear channels, including dedicated feeds for franchises like Star Wars, Pixar, and The Simpsons.

Looking ahead, Disney aims to expand the platform's utility by potentially incorporating gaming, consumer products, and deeper ties to Disney parks and cruises. Additionally, a partnership with TikTok is being pursued to reach younger, mobile-centric audiences and increase vertical video engagement.
