Disney+ to introduce advertising in all subscription tiers
Disney+ is updating its terms of service to allow advertising across all subscription tiers, including the Standard and Premium plans that were previously marketed as ad-free. Under the new terms, users may encounter promotional content, sponsorships, and advertisements before or after movies and series, as well as during live events and third-party content.
While the company states that mid-roll interruptions during films are reserved for specific ad-supported tiers, the inclusion of pre- and post-roll content in higher-priced plans has drawn criticism from subscribers. The company describes these changes as a clarification of existing terms. Users are being notified via email and will be required to accept the new agreement upon their next login to continue using the service.
In addition to the advertising changes, reports indicate that Disney+ has removed AirPlay support from its iPhone and iPad apps, requiring users to use the native app on receiving devices instead.
