Disney to remove failed lighting system at EPCOT

Disney is removing the ambitious in-ground lighting system at EPCOT’s World Celebration Gardens after persistent technical failures. The system, which was intended to be a futuristic centerpiece of the park’s multi-year overhaul, featured programmable light channels embedded flush with the walkways to create colorful, synchronized displays.

Since the area opened in December 2023, the installation has faced significant infrastructure issues. Reports indicate that segments of the lighting frequently went dark or drifted out of sync with choreographed shows. Following several years of failed repairs and guest complaints, crews have begun filling the former lighting channels with plain concrete, effectively ending the technological experiment.
