Disney to rerelease ‘9 to 5’ in theaters to benefit Dolly Parton’s literacy foundation

Disney is bringing the 1980 comedy ‘9 to 5’ back to theaters for a limited one-week engagement from October 9 through October 15. The rerelease is part of the newly established ‘Give Like Dolly Day’ and serves to honor the legacy of Dolly Parton, who passed away on August 25 at age 80.

All ticket sales from the U.S. theatrical run will be donated to The Dollywood Foundation to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Since its inception in 1995, the literacy program has distributed over 300 million books and currently provides approximately 3 million books monthly to children from birth through age five.

The film, which stars Parton alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, remains a significant part of her cinematic legacy. The announcement follows a period of high viewership for television tributes dedicated to the late singer and actress.
