Disney to restore Expedition Everest Yeti animatronic

Disney Experiences chairman Thomas Mazloum announced at the D23 Horizons showcase that the Yeti audio-animatronic in the Expedition Everest attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be restored.

Since roughly 2007, the 25-foot-tall figure has operated in a reduced “B-mode” due to structural issues with its framing. This malfunction, which utilized a strobe light to simulate movement, led fans to nickname the figure the “Disco Yeti.”

To mark the announcement, singer Gloria Gaynor performed “I Will Survive” as a send-off to the malfunctioning version of the animatronic. While Disney stated the Yeti is “coming back to life,” no specific timeline for the restoration has been released.
