Disney+ updates terms for ad-free subscription tiers

Disney+ has updated its terms of use, leading to confusion among subscribers regarding advertising in its ad-free subscription tiers. While the Standard and Premium plans are marketed as being without commercial interruptions, new clauses allow for certain types of promotional content.

According to the company, these tiers will not feature traditional mid-program commercial breaks. Instead, users may see trailers for Disney productions, branded content, or program sponsor messaging before or after films and series. However, live broadcasts, such as sporting events or cultural programming, may still be subject to standard advertising interruptions.

Reports suggest the change in terminology is intended to standardize terms of use globally. In some jurisdictions, promoting in-house content is legally classified as advertising, necessitating the inclusion of such language in the service agreements.
