Disney+ updates terms to allow ads and promotions on all subscription plans

Disney+ has updated its subscriber agreement to allow promotional content, sponsorships, and advertisements across all subscription tiers, including the Standard and Premium plans. While these higher-priced tiers are still marketed as ad-free regarding traditional mid-roll commercial interruptions during on-demand movies and series, they will now include promotional material such as trailers, clips, and brand sponsorships before or after playback.

Live programming, including sports via ESPN, special events, and certain third-party content, will continue to feature regular commercial breaks regardless of the subscription level. The updated terms also explicitly prohibit the use of ad blockers, stating that Disney reserves the right to suspend accounts or restrict access if such technology is used to prevent advertisements from appearing.

One notable exception is the Junior Mode profiles, which remain entirely free of advertisements and promotional content. The policy change has sparked significant discussion among subscribers regarding the evolving definition of an “ad-free” experience in the streaming industry.
