Disney World monorail passengers stranded by lightning strike

A lightning strike at Disney World in Florida disabled the electrical system of a monorail, leaving passengers stranded for approximately 90 minutes. The incident occurred during a weekend of severe thunderstorms in the state.

During the delay, passengers experienced hot and humid conditions inside the train. The monorail driver instructed riders on how to manually open windows for ventilation. Once power was restored, authorities towed the train to the nearest station to allow passengers to exit safely.

In response to the incident, Disney guest relations provided the affected passengers with $50 gift cards and Lightning Lane passes to bypass lines at the park.
