Disney reveals Maleficent coaster details and EPCOT lighting updates

Walt Disney Imagineering has shared new details regarding the upcoming Villains Land expansion at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. A central feature of the new area will be a flagship roller coaster themed around Maleficent. The attraction is described as a high-speed journey through a mountain fortress, following a storyline where guests receive a dangerous invitation from the character.

Separately, Disney has begun removing the programmable in-ground LED lighting system at EPCOT’s World Celebration Gardens. The system, which debuted in December 2023 to create a glowing EPCOT logo and synchronize with park shows, reportedly suffered from persistent malfunctions and damage caused by the Florida climate. Crews are currently replacing the failed lighting infrastructure with standard concrete.
