Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge welcomes three new nyala calves

Three nyala calves have arrived at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World. The new additions are currently spending time backstage bonding with their mothers.

Nyala are a species of antelope native to southern Africa. While the sex of the three calves has not yet been disclosed, the species exhibits significant sexual dimorphism: females possess bright chestnut coats, whereas males develop gray to dark brown coats and spiral horns as they mature. The calves are born with white stripes and spots to assist with camouflage in tall grass.

The births are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan, an initiative focused on conservation efforts for various species. Once the calves are ready, they are expected to appear on the resort's savanna areas, including the Uzima and Sunset savannas.
