Disney's Hexed animated film sparks witchcraft controversy

The release of the first trailer for Disney’s upcoming animated film, “Hexed,” has sparked controversy regarding its portrayal of witchcraft. The story follows Billie Doe, a teenager played by Hailee Steinfeld, who discovers mystical abilities and enters a universe inhabited by witches. The film features a voice cast including Jodie Foster and Rashida Jones.

Critics, including former psychic Jenn Nizza, have expressed concern that the film presents magic and sorcery in an aesthetically pleasing and normalized manner. Nizza described the depiction as “really disturbing,” arguing that the film’s colorful presentation could mask spiritual dangers and contradicts biblical teachings regarding occult practices. While creators defend the project as creative fantasy intended for family entertainment, religious leaders and critics are calling for caution regarding the content's influence on children.
