Disney’s Hollywood Studios advances construction on Monsters, Inc. land

Construction is progressing on the new Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which is set to debut in 2027. The expansion will replace the former Grand Avenue area and recreate the setting from the Pixar ‘Monsters, Inc.’ franchise.

A central feature of the new district is a suspended roller coaster based on the door vault chase from the film. This attraction is expected to be Disney’s first suspended coaster, featuring ride vehicles that hang beneath the track. Aerial footage shows track being staged and work continuing on the large show building designed to house the ride.

Other developments within the land include the conversion of the former Rizzo’s Pizzeria into Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, a quick-service restaurant inspired by ‘Monsters University’. Additionally, the MuppetVision theater is being transformed into ‘The Glob’ theater, which will host the show ‘Welcome to Monstropolis’. While the land is scheduled to open in 2027, the specific opening date for the suspended coaster has not yet been announced.
