Disney Advances Moana 3 While Promoting Live‑Action Moana Release

Dwayne Johnson confirmed at a Rio de Janeiro press conference that Disney has begun early development on a third animated Moana film. Writers Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, who penned the scripts for Moana 2 and the upcoming live‑action remake, will also write the sequel. Johnson said, “Yes, we have talked about Moana 3, yes…but first, live‑action Moana.”

The live‑action version, starring Catherine Laga’aia as Moana and Johnson reprising Maui, is slated for worldwide release on 10 July 2026. Johnson’s promotional tour includes a stop in Brazil, where he trained in a Rio gym and met fans, highlighting the franchise’s global appeal.

Moana 2 earned over $1 billion worldwide, and the original film remains a top‑streamed title on Disney+. Disney’s continued expansion of the franchise signals confidence in its commercial potential, though the animated sequel is still in early stages and likely will not appear for several years.
