Disney's Live-Action 'Moana' Falters at Box Office as Album Launch Gains Attention

Disney released a live‑action version of "Moana" starring Dwayne Johnson. The film earned about $262 million worldwide, barely covering its roughly $250 million production budget and falling short of profitability expectations. Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro said the movie underperformed in theaters but is expected to become a strong title on Disney+ once it streams.

In parallel, an accompanying album, "Moana: Voices Across the Ocean," was fast‑tracked. Johnson, who also serves as executive producer, said the idea originated from his wife, Lauren Hashian, and received immediate approval from Disney executives. The album aims to highlight Polynesian culture and features a track called “Your Dad.”
