Displaced persons from Goma and Bukavu protest in Lubumbashi demanding humanitarian aid
On 28 July 2026, a group of displaced people from Goma and Bukavu gathered in a peaceful sit‑in before the Haut‑Katanga governorate in Lubumbashi, demanding urgent humanitarian assistance. About a hundred demonstrators, organized by the Collectif des déplacés victimes de la guerre de l'Est, reported severe shortages of food, medicine and basic services. Representative Paul Biamungu warned that four members of the group had already died in Lubumbashi because of the lack of aid and appealed for help from provincial officials, the First Lady, the Prime Minister and the national minister for social affairs.
In a separate protest in Bukavu, civil‑society groups led by Mick Mutiki marched through the city, calling for peace, an inclusive national dialogue and opposing United Nations sanctions on the M23 movement and any constitutional amendment. The demonstration shut down markets, shops and transport, and Mutiki presented a memorandum urging the authorities in Kinshasa and the United Nations to facilitate a negotiated solution to the eastern conflict.
