Display Technology Advances: TCL SQD-miniLED and Transparent OLED Breakthrough
TCL explains that its SQD‑miniLED technology provides far more local dimming zones than traditional RGB LED panels, enabling higher contrast, reduced blooming and colour‑crosstalk, and brightness levels of 5,000‑10,000 nits. The flagship X11L model can house up to 11,520 zones, far surpassing RGB‑LED units that manage only a few thousand.
Researchers at Seoul National University, led by Professor Yongtaek Hong, have developed a new metal‑electrode coating for transparent OLED displays that achieves 93.6%‑99% optical transparency and a sheet resistance of just 1.1 Ω per square. The method, published in Materials Horizons, could enable clearer, more durable transparent screens for AR devices, automotive displays, smart windows and other applications, with commercial products expected within one to two years.
