Distinction between anti-Zionism and antisemitism

Discussions regarding the distinction between anti-Zionism and antisemitism highlight that the two concepts are not synonymous. Antisemitism is defined as prejudice, discrimination, or hostility directed toward Jewish people due to their identity. In contrast, Zionism is a political-national movement supporting Jewish self-determination and a Jewish state in the historic land of Israel.

According to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition, criticism of Israel that is comparable to criticism directed at any other country is not, by itself, antisemitic. Furthermore, Jewish populations hold diverse political views; while some identify strongly as Zionists, others support Israel while criticizing its government, and some reject Zionism entirely. Additionally, the movement includes non-Jewish supporters, such as those within Christian Zionism.
