District of Clearwater proposes new zoning bylaw updates

The District of Clearwater is seeking public feedback on proposed updates to the town’s zoning bylaw. Following the adoption of an updated Official Community Plan in March, the district held an open house at the Dutch Lake Community Centre to present the changes and gather community input.

Proposed updates cover several categories, including housing, commercial, industrial, agriculture, and community uses. The plan introduces three new zones: mixed-use town centre, residential high density ground oriented, and residential medium density urban. Additionally, the district provided information regarding short-term rentals (STR) and additional dwelling units (ADU).

Senior planner Brianne McCourt noted that the proposed mixed-use town centre, located off Park Drive, aims to establish a central downtown core for the community. This area would feature a combination of commercial, civic, and residential uses, such as housing located above commercial spaces.
