Distrito Federal expands daycare program and appoints 2,681 teachers

In the Distrito Federal, Governor Celina Leão announced the expansion of the ‘Cartão Creche’ program to include children up to 4 years old. The initiative, which currently benefits over 11,000 children, aims to close the gap between daycare and formal schooling at age 5. The government is also evaluating proposals from private institutions to advance payment dates to the 5th of each month to assist with supplier and teacher salaries.

Additionally, the administration is appointing 2,681 new teachers to the public school system to replace temporary contracts. These educators will serve in nearly 800 schools, with official induction scheduled for October 1. Regarding infrastructure, the construction of Early Childhood Education Centers (Cepi) continues, with six new units expected to be delivered this year.
