Distrito Federal Health Secretariat expands medical workforce
The Health Secretariat of the Federal District (SES-DF) is expanding its medical workforce through both new hires and upcoming residency programs.
Recently, the public health network received 278 new doctors to bolster service capacity. This group includes 200 generalists, 43 family and community physicians, 34 gynecologists, and one oncologist. A portion of these professionals will be assigned to Primary Care at Basic Health Units (UBSs), while others will fill needs in specialized assistance areas. This follows a broader effort in 2026, during which 1,408 essential health professionals were appointed by the SES-DF.
Additionally, the SES-DF has announced the 2027 Medical Residency selection process. Applications will be open from October 1 to November 18, 2026, offering 566 vacancies across 74 programs. The selection, organized by the Instituto Americano de Desenvolvimento (IADES), includes 401 direct access positions in specialties such as Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Anesthesiology, as well as 80 positions requiring prerequisites and 75 in specific areas of activity. The selection process will consist of an objective exam and a second phase for choosing teaching scenarios.
