Distrito Federal lawmakers seek to protect Constitutional Fund

Lawmakers from the Distrito Federal (DF) caucus in the Chamber of Deputies met on Thursday to address potential financial losses regarding the Distrito Federal Constitutional Fund (FCDF). The group, comprising both current and newly elected representatives, is working to reverse distortions caused by recent legislation that alters the calculation of Net Current Revenue (RCL).

The issue stems from a mechanism included in a proposal approved prior to the election period. According to representatives, the change in how the fund is calculated could lead to significant revenue reductions for the capital, potentially compromising essential public services such as health, education, and public security.

To mitigate these impacts, the caucus delivered a formal document to the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta. The objective is to secure a commitment from Congress to preserve the original calculation formula until the end of the year. Lawmakers expressed hope that a corrective proposal will be included in pending legislation to ensure budgetary stability for the capital.
