Distrito Federal modernizes open data portal to boost transparency

The Federal District government in Brazil launched a modernized version of its Open Data Portal on June 19. The upgraded platform features advanced technology, a more intuitive navigation structure, and a streamlined user experience designed to make public datasets easier to access and reuse.

The portal, which has been operating since 2017, recorded more than 160,000 page views in 2025, a significant rise from about 105,000 in 2024. Frequently accessed datasets include information on violence against women, vehicle traffic flow, rental housing, public administration expenses, and property crimes. Officials say the improvements aim to foster greater citizen engagement, enhance transparency, and support future tools that allow the public to contribute to open‑data policies.

Victor Hugo Franco, coordinator of Transparency and Open Government, noted that the new design presents data “in a much simpler, organized, and pleasant way for those who need to use the tool.” The modernization also lays groundwork for additional functionalities that could further involve citizens in the open‑data ecosystem.
