Distrito Federal reports police violence and expands women's legal services

The Public Defender's Office of the Federal District (DPDF) conducted the 37th edition of its ‘Dia da Mulher’ project, providing 1,773 free services to women in Brasília. The initiative offered legal guidance, health services, social assistance, and citizenship support in a single location, including Libras interpreters to assist hearing-impaired women. Since its implementation in May 2023, the program has reached a cumulative total of 73,660 services.

Separately, data from the Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) revealed 60 reports of police violence between March and June of this year. Abuse of authority was the most frequent complaint, accounting for 43% of the cases. The reports involved the Military Police (30 cases) and the Civil Police (18 cases), with other allegations including torture, unlawful entry, and bodily injury. Approximately 25% of these reports were submitted anonymously via the MPDFT's online combat channel.
