Distrito Federal women targeted by fake breast surgery campaign

Dozens of women in the Distrito Federal have reported being victims of a scam involving a fraudulent plastic surgery drive. Operating under the name “Renova Mama, Um Recomeço,” the scheme used the “Outubro Rosa” breast cancer awareness campaign as a facade to promise breast reduction and prosthesis procedures.

Victims were told that while the surgeries were part of a social project, they were required to pay between R$ 1,000 and R$ 3,000 to cover surgical supplies. The scammers allegedly used the name of the Hospital Regional da Asa Norte (Hran) and the names of well-known plastic surgeons without authorization to gain credibility.

The Civil Police of the Distrito Federal (PCDF) is investigating the case as suspected fraud. The project leader, identified as Tayná Regina Oliveira Castro, has denied wrongdoing, claiming she was also misled by the proposal. The Distrito Federal Health Secretariat (SES-DF) has issued an alert, emphasizing that all services provided through the Unified Health System (SUS) are entirely free of charge.
