Diver dies off the coast of Yucatán during diving operations

Mario Ventura, a 46-year-old diver from Progreso, died on Friday night while working off the coast of Yucatán. According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred shortly after 10:00 PM at a depth of approximately 25 fathoms (about 45.72 meters).

Reports indicate that after surfacing and expressing discomfort, Ventura descended back into the water. Upon his second emergence, he reportedly suffered convulsions and passed away shortly after. His colleagues transported his body to the Celestún shelter port, where it arrived in the early hours of Saturday.

The Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) has taken custody of the body to perform an autopsy and officially determine the cause of death. There is speculation that the death may be related to decompression sickness. This incident marks the third case of suspected decompression issues reported in the region within two weeks, following the deaths or medical emergencies of two other divers in October.
