Divine app launches as a decentralized successor to Vine

A new short-form video platform called Divine has launched, aiming to recreate the experience of the defunct Vine app through six-second looping videos. While not officially affiliated with Vine or X, Divine has integrated approximately 170,000 archived clips from volunteer archivists into its library.

Divine distinguishes itself from competitors like TikTok by focusing on human-created content and explicitly banning “AI slop,” or low-effort, AI-generated material. The platform also claims to avoid algorithmic manipulation, allowing users more control over their feeds.

Technologically, Divine utilizes a decentralized approach where data is not stored on centralized servers, granting creators ownership over their content. However, the app uses a key-pair system for accounts rather than traditional email or phone numbers, meaning users will permanently lose access to their accounts if they lose their private keys.
