Divine video app launches as spiritual successor to Vine

Divine, a new short-form video-sharing app, has launched to the public. Positioned as a spiritual successor to Vine, the platform limits videos to six-second loops. The app has already restored over two million original Vine videos for its users.

Founded by former Twitter employee Evan Henshaw-Plath, Divine aims to provide a “reset” for social media. A key feature of the platform is a strict ban on AI-generated content, intended to ensure users can distinguish real footage from synthetic media. To enforce this, the platform utilizes methods such as requiring users to record videos live.

The app is built on the decentralized Nostr system, which allows users to potentially move their accounts and content to other compatible services, avoiding the platform lock-in seen with TikTok or Instagram. Divine is backed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey.
