Divinópolis expands canine testing due to leishmaniasis transmission

A recent survey in Divinópolis, Minas Gerais, has identified areas with intense transmission of visceral leishmaniasis. The findings showed indices exceeding recommended parameters in several evaluated regions, prompting an expansion of canine investigation and testing efforts.

Health teams are conducting a canine census to identify infected animals and monitor disease circulation. In the Niterói neighborhood, 376 canine tests were completed, and testing has now moved to the Halim Souki neighborhood. The process involves rapid tests followed by laboratory confirmation for positive cases before providing sanitary and prevention guidance to pet owners.
