Divinópolis launches breast cancer prevention campaign

The Association for Combating Cancer of West-Central Minas Gerais (Acom) and the Divinópolis City Hall have launched the 2026 'Outubro Rosa' campaign. The initiative aims to expand access to breast cancer prevention and early diagnosis within the municipality.

The campaign focuses on encouraging women aged 40 and older to seek mammograms through the Unified Health System (SUS). To facilitate access for women who cannot attend during standard working hours, the Acom Oncology Center will extend its mammography services until 8:00 PM throughout October.

Data from the National Cancer Institute (INCA) highlights breast cancer as the most frequent cancer among women. In 2025, the Divinópolis Cancer Hospital conducted 3,394 breast cancer-related consultations, 350 surgeries, and treated 2,161 patients. Officials noted that 6% of patients arrive at the facility with metastatic disease, which limits treatment options.
