DIY accidents cause thousands of hospital admissions

Emergency medicine professionals are warning against common do-it-yourself (DIY) mistakes that lead to significant hospital admissions. Data from the NHS indicates that in a single year in England, there were nearly 4,800 hospital admissions following accidents involving power tools and 6,372 admissions resulting from falls from ladders.

Analysis by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) revealed that falls accounted for 61 per cent of accident-related hospital admissions in England during the 2022/23 period. Medical experts emphasize that even falls from low heights can cause serious injuries, such as broken wrists, ankles, hips, or head trauma, especially if the individual strikes furniture or objects during the descent.
