Diyarbakır and Rennes strengthen cooperation in waste management

A technical delegation from Rennes, France, visited Diyarbakır, Turkey, to examine the city’s solid waste management systems. The visit, conducted between October 19 and 24, is part of the long-standing sister-city relationship between the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality and the Rennes Metropolis.

The delegation, which included officials from the Rennes International Relations, Waste Management, and Facilities and Reuse departments, inspected several key sites. These included the Kayapınar waste sorting pilot area, the Kayapınar Waste Collection Center, recycling and waste oil facilities, and the Medical Waste Disposal Facility.

Additional site visits covered the excavation waste disposal area, waste transfer stations in Mardin and Karacadağ, and a biogas plant. The mission aimed to facilitate technical knowledge exchange, evaluate existing infrastructure, and identify new areas for cooperation regarding sustainable environmental policies and zero-waste initiatives.
