Diyarbakır business leaders warn of real estate and construction sector crisis
Asım Asana, President of the Diyarbakır Chamber of Real Estate Agents and Construction Materials, has issued an urgent call to the Ministry of Trade regarding severe economic pressures facing the real estate and construction supply sectors.
In the real estate sector, businesses are struggling with market stagnation, rising office rents—which have reached 32 percent increases—and high personnel and tax costs. Asana specifically criticized the pricing policies of listing portals, noting a proposed 50 percent fee increase for October 2026. He warned that approximately 84,000 registered real estate businesses across Turkey are at risk of closing if these costs and economic conditions persist.
Simultaneously, the construction materials sector—including suppliers of cement, glass, PVC, and hardware—is facing a downturn due to decreased demand from new housing projects and urban transformation slowdowns. Asana highlighted that rising energy, financing, and rental costs, combined with collection issues from deferred sales, are making it difficult for small and medium-sized enterprises to maintain operations. He urged authorities to regulate listing fees and provide support mechanisms to prevent widespread business closures and job losses.
