Diyarbakır Business Summit addresses financing access issues
The Business Finance Meeting was held in Diyarbakır, organized by the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Diyarbakır Commodity Exchange, and the Diyarbakır Organized Industrial Zone. The event brought together business leaders, bank general managers, and representatives from the Credit Guarantee Fund to discuss regional economic challenges.
Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, Chairman of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), identified access to financing as the most significant obstacle for the private sector. He noted that high interest rates, combined with hidden costs such as commissions and file fees, place a heavy burden on businesses. Hisarcıklıoğlu also emphasized that macroeconomic conditions and credit growth limits restrict banks' ability to support the sector, calling for relaxed credit limits and positive discrimination for SMEs.
Other regional leaders addressed local economic trends. Mehmet Kaya, Chairman of the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry, reported that approximately 120 company headquarters are expected to relocate from Diyarbakır to other provinces in 2025. Meanwhile, Engin Yeşil, Chairman of the Diyarbakır Commodity Exchange, highlighted the city's potential in agriculture and industry, stating a goal to move beyond raw production toward processing goods for global markets.
