Diyarbakır Court Accepts Indictment of Nevzat Bahtiyar’s Sons in Narin Güran Murder Case
Following the sentencing of Nevzat Bahtiyar to 17 years for the killing of 8‑year‑old Narin Güran, police conducted a vehicle stop behind the Diyarbakır courthouse on 16 April. In the search of a car belonging to Bahtiyar’s son Ibrahim (22) and his brother Mehmet (37), officers recovered two unlicensed pistols and a large quantity of ammunition.
The indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office was accepted by the 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance. Ibrahim Bahtiyar was taken into custody on charges of illegal firearm possession, while Mehmet Bahtiyar was released. Both defendants claimed they kept the guns for personal protection after being threatened by the victim’s family. The court noted their nervous behavior when police arrived and recorded their statements for the record.
