Diyarbakır Governor Murat Zorluoğlu vows crackdown on poison traders as crime rates fall

Governor Murat Zorluoğlu of Diyarbakır held a press briefing with the provincial police chief and the gendarmerie commander, stating that authorities will continue to fight "poison traders" who target children, youth and the public. He pledged to "crush" these dealers and bar them from operating.

Zorluoğlu presented five‑year crime statistics showing a clear downward trend across all categories. Clearance rates rose from 79 % in 2022 to 96 % by the end of 2025 and reached 98 % in the first seven months of 2026, placing Diyarbakır second among Turkey’s thirty largest cities for crime reduction. He noted that the security forces, together with the interior ministry and other regional officials, have increased operations against threats, shootings, organized crime, drug trafficking and traffic violations.
