Diyarbakır launches design call for 2015 attack memorial

The Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality has issued an open call for the ‘5 June Memorial Square and Commemoration Site Idea and Design Project’. The initiative aims to create a memorial space to honor those who lost their lives during the bomb attacks at İstasyon Meydanı on June 5, 2015.

The project seeks to transform the city’s collective memory into a physical space, symbolizing social memory and the will for peace. The municipality emphasized that cities are not just structures but carriers of lived experiences and stories, aiming to make the pain and experiences embedded in the city's memory visible through design.

Submissions will be evaluated by an independent jury. The selected monument or sculpture is planned to be displayed in a designated location within the city. The deadline for applications is September 25.
