Diyarbakır Municipality Provides Low‑Protein Food Aid to 50 PKU Patients

The Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality has expanded a special nutrition program for citizens with phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare inherited metabolic disorder that requires a lifelong low‑protein diet. The initiative, launched in December 2025, initially assisted five patients and, after municipality teams identified additional cases across the province, now supplies low‑protein food boxes to 50 individuals.

The program, run by the Disability and Elderly Services Directorate’s Rare and Chronic Diseases Branch, aims to simplify daily management of PKU and lessen the financial burden on families, continuing to provide periodic deliveries of specially formulated products. It follows a similar municipal effort that previously supported celiac patients.
