Diyarbakır murder trial of Narin Güran delayed to Oct. 1

A Turkish court in Diyarbakır postponed the second hearing in the criminal case concerning the August 2024 murder of six‑year‑old Narin Güran. The trial, which includes the original defendants—her uncle Salim Güran, mother Yüksel Güran and brother Enes Güran—who received aggravated life sentences for child murder, as well as 15 additional individuals charged with "obstructing justice," was resumed after a Yargıtay decision overturned part of the earlier rulings.

The court accepted the lawyers' requests for postponement, citing the need to address procedural gaps, and set a new hearing date for 1 October. No defendants remain in custody after the regional appellate court lifted travel bans and ordered release under judicial control for three of the accused. The case remains under active judicial review.

The postponement extends an already lengthy legal process that began when Narin’s body was found in a riverbed wrapped in a sack, sparking nationwide outrage and extensive investigations into the involvement of multiple family members and other alleged accomplices.
