Turkey reports 23.1 million barrels of oil produced in first half of 2026

Turkey's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources reported that in the first six months of 2026, domestic oil production reached 23.1 million barrels. The majority of this production, 21.8 million barrels, was carried out by Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO), with the Gabar region accounting for 60 percent of the total output.

Natural gas production during the same period exceeded 1.64 billion cubic meters. TPAO was responsible for 1.608 billion cubic meters, while the private sector contributed 33 million cubic meters. Notably, 92 percent of the total natural gas production originated from the Sakarya Gas Field.

Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the country aims to double natural gas production in the Black Sea this year and quadruple it by 2028. He also highlighted new exploration efforts in Diyarbakır using horizontal drilling technology, noting that the potential in Diyarbakır could be two to three times higher than that of the Gabar field. Additionally, Turkey is expanding its energy footprint internationally through projects in Somalia, Libya, and Iraq.
