Diyarbakır prosecutors investigate “Şeytantepe” documentary

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a judicial investigation into the documentary “Şeytantepe,” which covers the Narin Güran murder case. Following applications from the Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Team (JASAT), authorities are investigating whether the film aims to discredit the investigation and prosecution processes. The probe is examining the production, filming, and financing of the documentary, including financial movements between those involved, to determine if there are links to activities targeting judicial authorities and gendarmerie personnel.

This investigation follows a legal setback for the Güran family, whose application to have the Narin Güran murder case reclassified as an “unsolved murder” (faili meçhul) was rejected. Authorities stated that no new concrete evidence was found to justify a re-evaluation of the case, noting that previous judicial decisions had already identified the perpetrators.

In the original case, which began after the disappearance of 8-year-old Narin Güran in August 2024, several family members, including her mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim, were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for complicity in intentional homicide. Another individual, Nevzat Bahtiyar, was sentenced to 17 years in prison following a retrial for aiding in the crime.
